Me Tarzan, You Jane by Camelia Miron Skiba, Book Review

Book Summary (Per Author's Website)
Moving on doesn’t always have to mean goodbye.
Widowed makeup artist Jane Sullivan is more comfortable keeping her husband’s memory alive than dating a pool full of sharks. Ella, her 4 year-old daughter, is her whole world.
When Jane meets Lucas Oliver, famous cover model, it’s hate at first sight. His playboy persona rubs her the wrong way.
Accustomed to every woman fawning over him, Lucas is drawn to the shy, uncompromising single mom and completely melts at the sight of Ella. He is determined to convince Jane that sometimes a second chance can mend a broken heart.
My Thoughts:
I absolutely adored this book.  I read the blurb and was snagged, but honestly thought while I enjoyed it, it would not be a book that I enjoyed as much as I did.  If you read romance books you are expecting a happy ending and so many times it may not be the most shocking of endings:)-  When I first started I was hesitent because it is clear immediately that Jane will not like Lucas initially and seems somewhat irate/bitter, but if you stick with the book the depth of both characters starts emerging (Jane's quicker b/c I was not liking Lucas for a bit!) I like to keep getting the unexpected and this book did have that in sections...which I LOVED! This is a quick read, but still there are so many interesting lessons one can take from it and enjoy while learning about the complex characters that the author introduces to us. The depth of the characters, the sparks between several characters in differing relationships, the family dynamic built between relatives, colleagues, etc. all kept me enthralled.  If you like a clean but still romantic story this is a must read!
This book showed how people can make assumptions based on looks, how people have hidden depths and the extremes that others may go to try and protect or take advantage of those in their life.  It was these extremes that made this not just another romance read to me.  I enjoyed, and think you will too,  the events that unfold between the two main characters as well as several secondary characters that I hope get a book of their own (or at least show up in more of Camelia's work!)

  1. Oh Meghan,

What a delight to read your review! Can't thank you enough for the kind words. It seems I managed to cause some emotions with Lucas and Jane's relationship and that was exactly my intention all along. In the original manuscript I had Jane's girlfriends hook up with Lucas's guys. I wasn't sure everyone would get their own book, but it was plenty material to start and develop at least one. Long story short I was told the novel was too long and so cut 1/3 of it. One day I might consider publishing those chapters I cut... one day ;)
Once again thanks so, so much for the review. May 2015 be the best year ever!
