My Thoughts
I loved the first book and was somewhat surprised to find there were more books after reading the ending. Yes I already knew since the Outlander series is everywhere, but I loved the ending to the first book. So I quickly got this book and started reading it...straight up..the writing is excellent, the story is very multi-faceted, but I did not like this book as the first (It still is good, just not as good for me). Mainly because it one was a wee bit slower in action, two it kept jumping around which was a different writing technique from the second and three I was not happy with where DG took us readers in Claire and Jaime's story!! I do wonder if I had read the book summary before reading the book if I would have felt different, but I rarely read a book summary (eck) All I know is the feels and tears for this story..yikes.
Now about halfway or 2/3 of the way through the book I was ensnared! The plot had so many twists and turns and the way that information was released between the two...genius! That Jamie..wowza..he lived a very interesting and twisting life in those twenty years. One thing that remained the same for me for both books was my absolute admiration and enjoyment of the depth and full development of the individuals in the story. I kept looking for more information about Fergus and Ian and loved the stories shared about James. his men, the battles and how Claire convinced her daughter and Roger to believe her story! The ending left me devastated but hopeful (seriously so many feels in this book and series!) Once I finished this book I knew I had to get to the next one and just hoped it moved a bit faster, had a happier story plot...and..well that review will be up shortly!!
