My Thoughts
KA's new book was published October 27...I finished reading it at 4am on October 27..no shame...it is that amazing.  Once you start you will not want to put this book down!

I thought this book did one of the best jobs of covering some difficult issues while staying true to the back story that Chaos is dealing with in this series.  I did not see Millie's issues coming...talk about a twist, shock and OMG moment all at once when that happened!  High is one of the more interesting male characters in my opinion.  Not in that he is my favorite (Sorry for those that he is!), but that at times I felt bad for him, was confused by him, immensely disliked him, and then loved him.  Talk about a roller-coaster of emotions!  However, as you read this book and see some of the scenes and conversations between Millie and High you will take that ride as well my friends!

Since this book four in the Chaos series I knew to expect the Chaos members and women in the book, but I thought it was genius how we saw the women band together to support High, the insight into more relationships that we already love and then how everyone came together to love and support Millie.  Great entertainment.  Some of the best scenes for me were the ones where Mellie interacted with High's children and ex-wife.  Weird, perhaps, but I thought that they added such a realistic flare to the story and I loved the changes between them as the story progressed.  So yes, I sighed, smiled, cried and laughed throughout this entire story and fell even more in love with the Chaos family.

*There is a bonus chapter on KA's website that you MUST read after finishing this book.  If you are a fan of the Chaos and Dream Man series..this scene will just make your day, smile, take a deep sigh and think back on your childhood dreams!!*

The Ninth Chosen (The Shadow Prison #1) by K.A. Parkinson , Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Fantasy, YA
Published~ July 3, 2014

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
Sixteen-year-old Macy is not your average teenager—she’s a member of the Chosen, an elite group of gifted and magically talented children responsible for protecting humans from the monsters of the Hidden race. But when the Shard of the Ninth Chosen arrives at her Watcher’s door with the deadly Shadow Wraiths in hot pursuit, her world is shaken. The Ninth is to lead the Final Battle against the evil forces of the Dark. And when that Ninth turns out to be Tolen Parks, a clueless seventeen-year-old who has no idea he’s anything other than a freak, she figures the world is a gonner. The two of them are swept down a dangerous path that tests everything that Macy is . . . and brings out everything that Tolen can be. Amidst monsters and Radia Warriors, the pair must discover who they really are and face the heart of darkness in order to find victory . . . and their destinies.

My Thoughts
I loved every aspect of this story.  I can't even describe the ups, downs, laughs, tears and gasps this story put me through...except to say I loved it and I can't wait to read the next in this series!  The writing style was unique for me because I felt like the KA was able to put me into a place where I felt where each character was coming from and feeling.  With every scene I was rooting for or irritated with each character! I never knew which way Macy was going to go and I was floored by some of the losses we experiences and I still think my mouth is hanging open with the ending...in a good way..I promise!!

If you are a YA or fantasy type reader you probably will not be surprised that the author has created a whole world and language, but I think you and everyone who reads this will appreciate the depth and artistry behind the world that KA created for this story.  I loved learning about the different powers, creatures, the Chosen, the Hidden race and more.   The story does delve into the often discussed battle between light and dark, good and evil, but by creating this world and the skills with which the characters came to life I felt that this book was unique and a fascinating read!

Shaping Destiny by Heather Monroe, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Paranormal, Romance
Publisher~ self
Published~ December 8, 2014

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
Nineteen-year-old Leah Hawk must finish a war that started one hundred years ago . . . but she can't do it alone. When Leah leaves the comfort of her overprotective parents' home and of her small hometown for the first time, she heads to college with her longtime boyfriend, Jared. From the day she gets there she repeatedly notices a man watching from afar. The feelings from their brief contacts are not only scary and conflicting, but they also always leave her with an unexplainable feeling of longing to be with him. Between the supernatural pull that this mystery man has on her, her boyfriend's jealousy, and the attacks from the revengeful Spark family, Leah feels a little overwhelmed. On top of all of it, she must learn to accept the fact that she is the only living shape-shifter in her family. With the strength of her true love, who is the key to her gift of shift, she will embrace her destiny. When the war comes knocking on her front door she doesn't back down, not until blackness consumes her.

My Thoughts
Overall I enjoyed the story.  I did think some parts of the story jumped a bit, but not in such a way that the story was lacking or hard to follow.  The story would have stronger if it had more detail. However, the premise of the story and the interactions between the characters were quite entertaining.

I thought the build up to showing her paranormal aspect was done very well, but I was confused by how easily she accepted the idea of shifting, her ability to do it, her parents hiding it from her, etc.  I would have loved to see more behind the relationship with Jared and his history.  Admittedly I do not enjoy love triangles so I was not surprised to see that I was not a fan of this grouping, but again that might be because of how fast the story was told.  I did like her rescuer.  He sounds very interesting and I liked how his character built throughout the entire story. I also enjoyed the way HM set up her scenes and secondary characters.

You know I love Book Trailers and this one is pretty spot on for the book and engaging!

A Timeless Romance Anthology~ All Hallows Eve, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Romance
Publisher~ Mirror Press
Published~ August 14, 2015

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: All Hallows’ Eve Collection. Three historical novellas and three contemporary novellas, all with romance, thrills, and chills.

In Sarah M. Eden’s mysterious novella OF GHOSTS AND GARDENS, if Enid Pryce has one downfall, it’s that she talks to the ghost in her garden, which doesn’t make her too popular among society’s elite. In fact, she returns to her home in Wales after a Season in Bath with not one offer of marriage. Deeming herself a failure at the nearly-spinster age of nineteen, she is pleasantly surprised when an English gentleman shows up in her garden, apparently intent on finding out more about the ghost. Burke Kennard, grandson of an English marquess, quickly becomes utterly charmed by the young Welsh woman, but the ghost in the garden is more likely to push them apart than pull them together.

In Annette Lyon’s enthralling story IT’S YOU, when Charlie and Anna both see the ghost of Nanny Mae, they think they’re losing their minds. Anna tries to find out more about the ghost and uncovers a decades’ old family secret. One that separated two people in love. Now, the ghost of Nanny Mae must set her wrongs to right. As Charlie and Anna explore the past, and the truth of what happened, they discover that the mistakes of the past might lead to love of the future.

In SOPHIA’S CURSE, a suspenseful novella by Heather B. Moore, Joan grows up in an abbey in France, believing that she is an orphan. A chance encounter with the foreboding owner of a neighboring estate, alters everything she’s understood about her parents. She discovers she’s an integral part of changing a decades-old curse, and that her life, as well as the handsome and intriguing Simon Rousseau’s life, are both in danger unless she makes an enormous sacrifice that will change the course of her dreams.

In Lisa Mangum’s haunting story THE SIRENS’ SONG, we meet recently widowed Oliver, the lead physician on a luxury cruise liner traveling to Greece. He hopes that the change of scenery will help ease his grief over his deceased wife, Cate. After falling overboard, though, he is captured by a siren and taken to a mystical island. Through the sirens' song, Oliver is able to relive his memories of Cate—both the good and the bad—as long as he gives away his memories of her. But can he sacrifice his best memory in exchange for one last chance to say good-bye?

In Jordan McCollum’s thrilling novella THE MAN OF HER DREAMS, homicide detective Alexandra Steen dreams about real murders before they happen, seeing the crime through the eyes of the killers. But the dreams never contain enough clues to save the victim before it's too late. Then one dream ends before a murder occurs—in a place she knows. She finds herself racing against time to prevent the deadly act, only to discover that the intended victim is a man she thought she’d never see again. Seven years might have passed since her breakup with Nick, but the years haven’t changed her feelings for him. Now, she must convince Nick that her dreams are real and find a way to prevent his death.

In Elana Johnson’s chilling story THE GHOST OF MILLHOUSE MANSION, Naomi knows her crush on Colt Jennings is unreasonable. When he invites her to his reclusive mansion to restore an old wooden rocking horse, Naomi can’t resist accepting the job. The more time Naomi spends touring his home, the more interested she becomes in Colt. Until she sees a man in the library who vanishes into thin air. She thinks she’s losing her mind until Colt tells her about the ghosts he’s been seeing for years.

My Thoughts
Curses, ghosts, sirens, and more make this a fantastic romance and series of stories to read at Halloween.  Each story is sweet, funny and complete.  I enjoyed seeing the different elements of Halloween appear in each adventure while the two characters fell in love. I would have loved to learn more about the characters in The Ghost of Millhouse Mansion or Sophia's Curse or Of Ghosts and Gardens...not because they weren't well developed, but because when the story was over I wanted more!  I wanted to know were all the ghosts settled for Naomi and Colt,  how did Joan and her father do after they finally met, what happened with Enid and Burke? Did they stay in the Welsh area, go back to London or Bath, did they find more ghosts?!!?!

This was an extremely quick read and so fun to see different authors find a way to tell different Halloween stories that still had romance, thrill and a spook without the scare:)

50

Congratulations Kristen Ashley!!

Today was the release of another Kristen Ashley book, which is reason to celebrate in and of itself, but this is not a review of that book. (yes i already finished and I can't wait to write my review).  No, this post is purely to just send praise and congratulations to KA.  Today's release, Walk Through Fire, is her 50th published story.

!*!*!*!*!*!50!*!*!*!*!*!*

That means 50 books that have taken us to new worlds, locations and families.  50 times where we got to enjoy the drama, laughter, tension, sadness, laughter, fashion, music and love of the different characters and groups that KA created for us lucky readers.

If you have not yet read a KA book, I strongly encourage you to do so! They include strong male and female characters, the stories have humor, love, fashion, music, drama, and more.  You will laugh, cry, get irritated, giddy and then be in a rut that you finished the book!  These characters come to life as you read the stories and you get to see them and their relationships grow not just in their story but in the other stories as well.

Each time a new book is released I always wonder if I will like the new couple as much because I already have so many favorite scenes, stories, couples, relationships, etc. Yet, somehow after each story I am completely rooting for the main characters and further entrenched in the stories of the other members of this newest story.  So thank you KA.  Thank you for bringing so many great stories and characters to life!

Congratulations and I can't wait to experience the next story you provide us!!

My essential oil essentials!

This past weekend I went to an amazing book signing event.  I loved meeting so many authors, talking to so many other avid book lovers, getting more books (I mean its like a room full of kids at Christmas), and exploring a new city!  For the first time in a long time I did not get sick while I traveled which made the trip even better!

Now it could be my immune system is getting stronger, no germs were around, or a million other reasons, but I like to think part of the reason I felt so good was some of my essential oil essentials!!  I have received emails and messages from some of y'all asking me what I travel with, what I don't leave home without, etc. so I thought I would post those lovely items below!

I used to use Vaporub, but when Doterra came out with this essential oil version I immediately switched!  The smell is calming but effective.  I did not get congested while at the hotel or on the road!

This product is what captured my heart with essential oils and DoTerra.  I have dealt with stomach issues for several years now and while this won't heal or stop those issues it has helped my symptoms out a great deal!

I enjoy the taste and if I know I am going to be in crowds I make sure to take one or a few with me!

I cannot even begin to tell you how much my parents, my great aunt and I love this product line.  Seriously, we no longer buy Ben-Gay or other products for muscle aches, we just use this product for muscle or inflammation issues and adore it!  The smell is fantastic and it has helped calm any flare ups.  We all make sure not to travel without one or all of the deep blue line!

What are some items that you do not leave home without?  Any items that I should check out? Let me know!

Until my next post...love y'all!!

Secrets in Phoenix by Gabriella Lepore, Book Review

General Information
Genre~Fantasy, YA
Publisher~ Oftomes Publishing
Published~ October 13, 2015

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
When Sophie Ballester and her twin brothers Sam and Todd are uprooted from their home and sent to a remote boarding school run by their Great Aunt Ness, they stumble upon a hidden room that holds a secret—a secret that will change everything.

The people of Phoenix Holt are not what they seem.

In fact, nothing is.

My Thoughts
I did not see that coming.  Really that  one sentence sums up my reaction to the book . . .which makes me incredibly happy!  Some of the story is very straight forward, but other parts of the story make you think something has to be a certain way to only find out later that you were oh so wrong.

I enjoyed the writing style, the descriptive languages and the use of magic in this story.  All three created the world of Phoenix Holt and brought it to life.  When the story talks about the Phoenix sculptures, the angry eyes, the cemetery scenes and more I picture it playing out in my mind.  The youth of the boarding school is the big shocker to me...I mean all boy schools (not that surprising)...what the school's mission is and how the boy were admitted...that got my attention!

If you like books that have a bit of a suspense, leave you wondering what will happen, are very descriptive and involve the YA crowd I would recommend you go try this story out! It was the first time I read a book by Gabriella Lepore, but it won't be the last:)

Hannah and Teddy Go to Paris by Lizzie James, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Children
Published~ December 11, 2014

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
Hannah has a dilemma…
She wants to go to Paris to visit her grandma but doesn’t have enough money to get there.
Luckily, her best friend, Teddy, who also happens to be her Yorkshire terrier, comes up with a brilliant plan to earn the money for their trip.
Will their plan work and will they get to Paris?
Follow Hannah and Teddy on their adventure as they try to make their dream a reality.

My Thoughts
In  a word...adorable!  I purchased this book at the signing event that I attended this weekend (a post will be up on that this week). The writing style is certainly suited for children, but the story, lessons learned and adventures are, in my opinion, fun for all ages!  If you have read my blog for a while you know I am an animal lover, so immediately I was in love with Teddy and wishing that my girls could talk to me! Seriously, how fun would that be to have in our lives?  Can you imagine what they would have to say?!?!?!?!

I bought several copies of this book and am so glad that I did because I cant wait for my friends and family members children to experience Hannah, Teddy and their adventures.  I also think many will love the Grandma..she seems so sweet!! Additionally, the book has some cute drawings throughout the chapters.  I think this book would be a great way to discuss how some families live far apart, the idea of responsibility with chores, traveling and more.

The Time Chamber: A Magical Story and Coloring Book by Daria Song, Book Review

General Information
Publisher~Watson-Guptill
Published~ October 13, 2015

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
Korean artist Daria Song’s sequel to The Time Garden takes readers on a visual journey into a magical nighttime world seen through the eyes of a fairy.

This second book in best-selling Korean artist Daria Song’s coloring series features the voyage of a fairy who, when the cuckoo clock chimes midnight, enters the human world. To the tiny fairy, everything seems enormous and magical, from the curtains to the chandelier to a mystical rowboat that takes her further into an inky adventure. Filled with the imaginative, intricately detailed illustrations Song’s readers have come to love, The Time Chamber presents a view of our world made new—and ready for coloring

My Thoughts
This book is a work of art.  When I received this book I immediately was immersed and impressed by the detail and intricate pieces that come together to tell a lovely and sweet story of this fairy!  Every page had so many things to look at and then try to decide how to color it to further bring this story to life!  The story is mainly told through the art, but it does have words throughout the story.

What I enjoyed the most about this book is the creativity.  It made me smile, my family smile and we all started talking about what colors to use, what pages were our favorite (the owl, the hot air balloon or the clock were all debated!!), I had not yet tried an adult coloring book and I am so glad that I finally did try this genre out with the book by Daria Song.

The Whispers of the Fallen by JD Netto, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Fantasy, Paranormal, YA
Publisher~ November 2012
Published~ Tristar Publishing Group

Book Summary (per Goodreads)
Ever since the dawn of days, rumors about the Diary of Lucifer echoed throughout Elysium. Hidden from all human knowledge, the Diary was kept a secret, locked away in the small village of Agalmath.

Isaac and Demetre find themselves in a dangerous journey as they uncover the truth about the Diary and those who guarded it for all these years. However, for Isaac and Demetre, danger lies at every step, hidden in the most unexpected places.

Hunted by the Nephilins and the Fallen Stars, they must find others who will join them in the battle against the coming darkness.

My Thoughts
From the cover (gorgeous), to story (captivating), to author interaction(so nice!).. this book, the first in a series, is out of this world good (literally:)-!!) I received this book, as well as the other two, via an Instagram giveaway.  When they arrived at my house I was immediately impressed with the quality of the cover, but more importantly I was excited to begin reading them because the pictures on Instagram and captured my curiosity and I had not come across a book that had the premise of Lucifer's diary.

If you enjoy descriptive language that takes you into a new world you will love to experience the world of Elysium.  From the beginning of this story until the end I was swept through the travels of the book-keepers, the Nephilins, the Fallen Stars and other mystical beings.  The imagery of the Creator and Lucifer was very creative and caused very graphic images of my head (hello the image of the Creator while Isaac first made his decision).  This would be an amazing book to have illustrated or if the proper visual effects could be implemented to become a movie.  The battle scenes played out in my head with the gore, the despair and for some the triumph.  There were twists and turns in the story that stumped the darkness and showed minute victories for the light or goodness.  What I enjoyed a great deal was that while the book obviously has these aspects of good, evil, light, darkness, etc. it does not try to preach or become a religious dialogue.  I do have favorite characters, but right now I am hesitant to say because the characters changed throughout the story..no not my opinion (though it did as well), but the actual souls within the characters!! By the end of the book I knew I would quickly proceed to book two to see how the different factions continued to rally and wage battle.

I have labeled this book with my Halloween tag solely because of the play on darkness, evil and the different creatures that appear.  The actual story does not revolve around or interact with the concept of Halloween:)  This book shows the relationship between good and evil, dives deep into the ideas and thoughts friendships, loyalty, doubt, fear, peace and more.   If you like stories that suck you into the story line and will make you think I would recommend this story!

Now y'all know I love me some book trailers and by far JD Netto has the most professional and gripping book trailers that I have come across!  Please enjoy:)

Your Next Breath by Iris Johansen, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Mystery, Thriller, Fiction
Publisher~ St. Martin's Press
Published~ April 28th 2015

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author comes an explosive new thriller

Catherine Ling is one of the CIA’s most prized operatives. Raised on the streets of Hong Kong, she was pulled into the agency at the age of fourteen. If life has taught her anything, it is not to get attached, but there are two exceptions to that rule: her son Luke and her mentor Hu Chang. Luke was kidnapped at age two, and now, nine years later, he has astonishingly been returned to her. Catherine vows never to fail him again. Now, just as she is building a relationship with Luke, it seems that someone from Catherine’s past is playing a deadly game with her, and using those she cares about as pawns. Three are dead already: the former prostitute who helped Catherine when she was out on the street, a CIA agent with whom she worked closely, and the informant who helped her free Luke. Someone is picking off the people Catherine cares about one by one, with the circle narrowing closer and closer to those she loves the most. Catherine has made many enemies throughout her life, and she has no choice but to weed through her past to find out who is targeting her now, and then go after the vicious killer herself.

My Thoughts
While I love the uniqueness and newness of stand alone stories, there is something so comforting and fantastic about coming back to the characters that I know and love.  Catherine was introduced in an Eve Duncan novel and her character has developed more and more with each introduction and now her own story line.  Each time I read more of her story, actions, thoughts and emotions I grow to like her more and more.

To me this is a classic IJ book.  Action, a bit of romance, potential devastating trauma, deep relationships and more are showcased and really support the individual adventure that this story takes us from cover to cover.  Now I am not sure what it says about me, but my favorite characters of this book were not the main ones (thought I do love Catherine and Eve).  No my favorite were Jane, Hu Chang, Richard Cameron and Caleb.  The story line surrounding Jane and Caleb held my attention more than the story surrounding the action around the villain this time around.   When the events surrounding Jane started to unfold I was shocked and beyond devastated because I still am upset about Trevor from a previous book!  I also am intrigued, as in still thinking about it a week later, by having Bonnie appear again right at the end of the book.  Was that setting up the next Eve book?  Was it just to let fans of the Eve stories get a quick glimpse of one of the favorite characters?  I don't know but it has sparked my interest!

If you are new to Iris Johansen this is an excellent book to try out her writing style, but you will need to read the other Catherine Ling stories to truly appreciate the conversations, actions and emotion between all of these beloved and fascinating characters!

Headaches and Essential Oils

I don't know about you, but I experience headaches very frequently.  Sometimes an Advil will work, others I will need Excedrin or for the really bad ones I will need a dark room, no noise, cold compresses, etc.  Regardless though my headaches were lasting a few days and leaving me with a very sore head, sensitivity to light, etc.  I was discussing this a few months back when I first started out learning about essential oils and many people recommended I try using some essential oils to aid in my headache relief. (not a cure, doesn't prevent them, but to try and see if could help lessen the pain/duration of my headache).  Well I am always open to learning more and trying healthy/natural ways to improve my health so I started researching.

What I found was many posts on Instagram, Pinterest, etc. that discussed the benefits of a plethora of essential oils.  So while there was a great deal of information out there, I did find it somewhat confusing because it was as if they all assumed everyone knew what to do with these oils!  (Maybe they do and I am the odd duck out).

So finally I took the plunge and tried out just placing lavender on the side of my head and the back of my neck.  I had some relief, but nothing drastic.  Further research had me trying some other single oils as well, but not major relief.  But then..oh then I found a series of blends to try out.  I did the blend below and found it to be a great aid in lessening the impact of my headaches.

Headache Roller Ball Blend
  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Frankincense
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil.
*I found many different blends that used different amounts of each of these.  I used a 10ml roller ball and did about 30-40 drops of Lavender and Peppermint and 20 drops of Frankincense.  I used less of the Frankincense solely because that is a pricier oil! After I placed the drops in the container I filled the rest of the container with the carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil)
*I found my roller-ball at a local health food store.  Mine is a clear glass container.*
*I use DoTerra essential oils and sell them because I was so impressed by the product and benefits I experienced using them. So if you are interested you can find my website HERE, but if you have your own essential oils, vendor, etc. or just want to research more I still hope you found this post helpful!*

Do I still get headaches? Yes, but they seem to not last as long and they do not leave as severe side affects once gone.  Now I still try to cut the noise, drink more water, do deep breathing, etc., but I wanted to share my story with this blend as I have enjoyed some benefits from adding this to my routine when I have headaches!

Do you have any favorite essential oils or blends?  How do you use them?  Let me know!

Until my next post..love y'all!!

The Perfect Witness by Iris Johansen, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Mystery, Thriller, Fiction
Publisher~ St. Martin's Press
Published~ January 1st 2014

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
She had the perfect life.
She had the perfect cover.
She was the perfect witness.
Until they found her.

When Teresa Casali was young she discovered she had a strange gift: the ability to read people's memories. But the gift seemed more like a curse as her mob boss father used her to gain the upper hand in his world of corruption and violence. Exposed by her own family to the darkest impulses of mankind, Teresa is alone and unprotected. She realizes that if she is to survive, she has to run.

Out of nowhere, or so she believes, a man by the name of Andre Mandak appears. He kills her pursuers--but that's not nearly enough for Teresa to trust him. It is his promise to get her into Witness Protection, along with his mind-blowing ability to help her control her gift before it consumes her, that convinces Teresa Casali to become Allie Girard. Living a normal life with a new family, she shuts the door to the past …although Mandak is clear: when the time is right, he too will benefit from her powers.

For years Allie flourishes …until the day her cover is blown and the truth comes tumbling out. Once again she is on the run, with her own life and those of her loved ones at stake. But this time she will not be a pawn. This time she will use her finely honed gift to end the threat that began with her family's betrayal. From perfect target to perfect witness, Allie Girard is ready to take on the past even if it kills her.

My Thoughts
The title, the cover, the writing style, the characters are all beyond enjoyable in this story from Iris Johansen (IJ).  I figured I would like it, but I was worried it would be a let down since I mainly enjoy the Eve Duncan series, but I was wrong..I was intrigued by Allie and her journey the entire story (as in I read this book in one afternoon setting..no shame!).  A gift that this story gives us that we meet Allie at age 16, learn about her turmoil via her training/learning to block and continue to see her grow in her gift and life.

As with the other IJ books that I have discussed or read, the writing style is descriptive and extremely easy to visualize.  I quickly started empathizing with the characters and enjoying the ride that was going to lead to the teamwork between Allie and Mandak.  One of my favorite IJ stories is The Ugly Duckling and this story had some aspects of that story (growing stronger to find the bad guy, not liking her mentor at first, wanting revenge but also not to be a "freak", etc.)  It is most certainly not the same story and has none of the same characters, but a few items did make me reflect on it and probably made me even enjoy this story more!

Many reviews and comments mark this as a stand alone story.  However, it does have some of the same characters and material as another IJ story, Pandora's Daughter. This story and the story line of the Davanez family that we first met in Pandora's Daughter is one that I hope IJ continues to develop.  The idea of having extra gifts is one that is not new to the IJ reader, but one that plays out differently in the Davanez family and who they encounter.

While I liked this book a great deal, will most certainly re-read it, I do wish that there had been more time spent on the gifts or powers that the two had, but mainly on Allie maybe having a bit more powers such as when she her the gentlemen call out but Mandak did not.  Also is their bond just truly love or is it something special for people who both have more powers?  I don't know, but I hope that these questions and more are seen in another story regarding the Davanez family!

If you like thrillers and intrigue with a dash of romance, but not a love story that is thrown in your face you would enjoy many of IJ's work...but most certainly this story!  What is your favorite IJ book? Do you gear more toward her thrillers or her earlier romances?

Lord John and the Haunted Soldier by Diana Gabaldon, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Historical Fiction

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
The new novella Lord John and the Haunted Soldier was published in the 2007 Delacorte Press collection Lord John and the Hand of Devils alongside previously-published novellas Lord John and the Hellfire Club (1998) and Lord John and the Succubus (2003). As Haunted Soldier is a direct follow-up to her novel Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade, Gabaldon pushed the publication of the Hand of Devils collection until after the novel's release.

Picking up right after the events of Brotherhood of the Blade in 1759, Grey searches for the culprit behind a suspicious cannon explosion as others seek to blame him or his half brother for the incident.

My Thoughts
I enjoyed this book and had high hopes because I liked the last Lord John novel so much!  However, I am back to the same problem I had earlier with the Lord John series...these novella's are just too short.  I loved the story, emotions, writing, premise, etc., but when the last page was completed I was lost.  Not lost like oh no it is done, but lost like wait what about this ghost...did he see it, did he not, was it the ghost, or the gentlemen who was such an important part of this story!  Essentially I felt confused, like I had missed an important part of the story.

Now perhaps this is leading into the next Lord John story because this story did pick up a few months after the last story regarding the cannon exploding, but if this was just a cliffhanger I would have liked some sort of notice to read the next one or what to do to continue the adventure!  I enjoyed seeing another aspect of Lord John and Harry is quickly becoming a favorite character of mine.  I thought the masked man and the visual descriptive given about his wounds gruesome and fantastic.  Overall I would recommend this novella, but with a warning that I was left confused!

September Favorites~ Beauty, Food and Lifestyle

These fudge brownies...out of this world.  Texture= perfection, Taste=utterly heavenly, Smell=can we bottle that please?  I can't wait until my next batch!

These taste heavenly!  With water, with almond milk, with berries, with peanut butter, with frozen bananas, etc. I think you get the picture..these are great!  I enjoy them as a snack, on the go, after a walk, weights, or swim.  They have helped me focus on my nutrition rather than running for a candy or other option.  I have shared with my parents and some friends while they were over and it was hit with everyone!

I like all the products I have purchased from them, but in September I really was enjoying Monkey!  Such a bright and vivid pink....yasss. *Sadly this shade is no longer available..even sadder is that I missed it for the closing out sale. By the time I was able to check the page it was already out of stock.  If you find any please let me know!

These are re-usable & renewable manicures that are divine!  I love the ease of use, the appearance, the compliments and just glam feeling that I experience when using these nails.  It really makes me feel more put together, fancy and glam whether I am wearing it out for a special event, work, at home or just to run errands.
They offer a huge assortment of nails from the solid traditional colors to more creative nail patterns that can be fun for an event.  If the set patterns don't fit your style they even have clear nails for that!  That way you can still use these nails to get the glam appearance but in your style.
This month I have really been wearing the Pretty in Pink and the Blue Grey set.  Love them!

This Hydrating Serum is out of this world fantastic.  I have dry skin and when I finish cleansing my skin and put this in..it feels amazing.  Truly I feel like my skin is shouting Thank You!!!
Okay so I could go on because I had some other favorites this month such as songs, more make-up etc, but I wanted to just touch on a few here!  What were your favorites?

Until my next post...love y'all!!!

Going off Script by Giuliana Rancic, Book Review

General Information
Genre~ Autobiography
Publisher~ Crown Archetype
Published~ April 7th 2015

Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
Giuliana Rancic is best known for interviewing A-listers on the red carpet and E! News, skewering their shocking style choices on Fashion Police, and giving viewers a front row seat to her marriage and family life on her reality show, Giuliana & Bill. What fans may not know is that she learned English from Eddie Murphy, got her American citizenship so she could be a beauty queen, and used to have a bad habit of stealing cars for fun.

Giuliana bares this and so much more in her hilarious, warm, and inspiring memoir, Going Off Script. From a young age she dreamed of being a TV anchorwoman but, because of her inclination toward mischief and away from schoolwork, her path to her dream job was far from straight. After a fateful (and mortifying) encounter with the late Senator Ted Kennedy, she learned that Hollywood news was where she belonged. Thankfully for readers, this epiphany led her to a bounty of LA misadventures (featuring notables such as Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Russell Crowe) and an entertaining behind-the-scenes perspective on what our favorite celebrities are really like.

In spite of her glamorous Hollywood life, however, Giuliana could not escape some rockier times, including her battles with infertility and breast cancer. Here, for the first time, she reveals the whole truth behind her well-publicized struggles, and the highly controversial decisions she had to make. And, of course, at the heart of it all are the two loves of her life who keep her strong through everything, her husband Bill and her son, Duke.

Candid, funny, and poignant, Going Off Script is an autobiography that proves you don’t always have to follow the rules to get the life you’ve always dreamed of.

My Thoughts
A swift read that brought chuckles, grimaces, empathy, tears and admiration.  I enjoyed learning about a person that previously I just thought shared gossip news on E!.  I knew she had other shows and had experienced cancer, but I was not aware of the majority of information or situations that this book brought into light.  Her openness with her relationship to Bill, path to becoming a mom, learning about and handling cancer, etc. were admirable and so open that I felt like I was talking to a friend.  Her use of inserting parts of her journal was brilliant.  I loved the writing style, parts of conversations from her co-workers, friends and family and her internal dialogue of how she made decisions.  It was fascinating reading her concerns about being Italian and feeling behind in class where I always grew up wishing I was an American, but with a European or something exotic background because I loved the accents, the facial features, etc.  I guess one always is wondering about the other side/way/etc.

That does not mean that I thought the book was flawless though.  I am not sure if it was what was shared or how it was shared, but parts of the memoir were difficult to accept was real or if real wonder how this really paired with the Giuliana that America knows.  Her discussion about Officer Pervy, stealing cars, stalking men and having co-workers go with her and her approach of how all three kids ran all over their parents were concerning/appalling at times and confusing at others.  I also am and was conflicted on how she wrote about her relationship with Jerry.  I did not know they had dated, but any time I read or hear something about someone I also feel awkward if the person does not have a platform to share their position.  However, I do not know how the relationship with Bill could have been shown correctly if it was not shared..hence conflicted.

Would I recommend this book? most certainly.  I was not a big watcher of the the shows before, but I will check them out now.  I admire what all G has accomplished and the grace with which she has done so. If you like biographies, fashion, gossip, relationships, struggles, etc. I think you would enjoy this book and learning about Giuliana.
