Book Summary (Per Goodreads)
I am Emmalyn Mikaelson.

My husband, in a rage, hit me in front of the wrong person. Diego, or Kincaid to most, beat the hell out of him for it. I left with Diego anyway. Even though he could turn on me just like my husband did, I knew I had a better chance of survival with Diego. That was until I realized Kincaid could hurt me so much worse than my husband ever could. Physical pain pales in comparison to troubles of the heart.

I am Diego “Kincaid” Anderson.

She was a waitress at a bar in a bad situation. I brought her to my clubhouse because I knew her husband would kill her if I didn’t. Now she has my protection and that of the Cerberus MC. I never expected her to become something more to me. I was in more trouble than I’ve ever been in before, and that’s saying a lot considering I served eight years in the Marine Corp with Special Forces.

My Thoughts
Hottt, but more than the steamy scenes and moments this book and the entire story is wonderful. This is a biker MC romance, but with a lovely twist.  Lately all the MC books I have read had some component of dealing drugs, guns, etc., but not this MC.  No, this MC has all of the alpha's, but many are veterans and the group helps the government out in bad situations...love this approach!

The build up and obstacles Diego and Em face in this story are so realistic and fun to experience.  Not fun as in a day at the zoo, but fun in that as the story progresses you get to see both POV's, can relate to both and want both happy so you are laughing at the miscommunication (I feel you Doc!) and cheering for their successes.  This is a standalone book, but it does answer the questions I had about Kincaid and what his role actually was in the last two Hale books!  I love how deftly MJ tied that together and it just made me love Diego even more.

Diego is a man's man.  He is strong, supportive, loyal, caring, and smart.  The way his men follow him and how quickly he reacts to those in need help make him a fantastic lead male. The cover of this book does his persona justice:)- Having his POV in the story was great because it allows actions that from Em's POV were horrible become explainable and see truly show timing is everything!  MJ covers some heavy topics in this book with domestic violence and veterans adjusting to being home.  I thought this book brought attention to these important topics brilliantly without overshadowing the action and romance!  Em is the epitome of a strong woman and survivor.  No matter what comes her way she is not out, but is still fighting.  I love that she never was a doormat and stuck up for herself even when scared or unsure.  They as a couple were adorable and I loved the dialogue and trust that they built during the majority of the book.

Once again MJ wrote a book that blew me out of the water.  Extremely well-written and obviously characters that are developed and interesting.  I read this in one setting and have thought about the characters and stories many times since I finished it! It has romance, relationships of all sorts (Kid and Kincaid, Kid and Em, Rose and Em, Rose and Doc, etc.), humor, action and more.  I can't wait to read more about this MC, their contracts with the government and hope (fingers-crossed here) that we get a story or at least more time with Kid and Shadow!
